Charlton Athletic manager Karl Robinson doesn’t believe Leeds United should have sold Chris Wood to Premier League side, Burnley.

Wood, 25, signed for Sean Dyche’s side for £15 million recently leaving Leeds with the task of replacing their Kiwi forward who scored 30 goals last season.

Robinson claimed to Sky Sports that he isn’t confident of the Yorkshire club’s ability to find an adequate replacement before the transfer window closes.

The 36-year-old manager of the League One side went on to say: “I'd like to think that I would fight to keep the best player”

Thomas Christiansen has had a busy transfer window so far this summer bringing in 12 new players including Jay-Roy Grot, Samu Saiz, and Caleb Ekuban all of whom play as strikers.

The Verdict

Here at FLW, we’re not quite sure why Karl Robinson felt the need to come out and talk about the Chris Wood deal.

However, he does have a point.

Replacing a player of Chris Wood’s calibre was always going to be difficult but Leeds have had some quality strikers before that have moved on to try and make it in the Premier League, Jermaine Beckford and Ross McCormack to name a few.

It isn’t uncommon for top strikers to leave the club and Leeds always seem to find a replacement.

Even if they don’t find a player who can’t bag 30 goals a season for them, it was worth the punt to take £15 million for Wood in our opinion.
