Amid interest from Portsmouth, Burton Albion and Shrewsbury Town, Leyton Orient manager Justin Edinburgh has moved to rubbish reports that Macauley Bonne is leaving the club, according to a report by The East London and West Essex Guardian.
The Sun recently reported the Football League trio’s interest in Bonne but Edinburgh has denied these reports.
The 22-year-old has struck 21 league goals for the O’s this season, despite them being in a relegation battle.
And it was thought that the Zimbabwe international, who used to play for Colchester, had caught the eye of Burton, Portsmouth and Shrewsbury.
Burton live to fight another day in the Championship after their dramatic win over Sunderland at the weekend.
The Brewers were trailing 1-0 with just minutes remaining before former Sunderland man Darren Bent equalised and Liam Boyce hit a late winner to pick up three vital points for Nigel Clough’s team and consign Sunderland to relegation at The Stadium of Light.
With two games to play, Burton trail Bolton by two points in the battle for survival.
Meanwhile, Shrewsbury Town and Portsmouth are both chasing promotion to the Championship via the play-offs so all three clubs could either be playing second tier or third tier football next term.
Bonne is young, hungry and he knows where the net is. It is a big step up from the National League to Championship or League One football but the former Colchester man can definitely grow into a role at that level. He has raw talent and Orient fans will tell you that he should at least have a dozen more goals to his name, meaning that once his finishing improves, he will be a prolific goal scorer.
