Lee Bowyer is expecting Charlton Athletic’s pursuit of Eunan O’Kane to stretch to the end of the transfer window, with the Leeds United midfielder’s move to London beginning to stall.

Charlton have an interest in O’Kane, with Bowyer looking to raid his former club to bring the midfielder on board.

Leeds have made O’Kane surplus to requirements, with Marcelo Bielsa freezing the Irish international out and not handing him a squad number for the new campaign.

However, despite interest from League One side Charlton, O’Kane isn’t keen on making the move down into the third-tier, with it his preference to stay in the Championship.

The loan transfer window has a week to run, with Bowyer telling South London Press & Mercury that he expects a deal to tick on until late in the window: “Is it going to happen straight away? No. We’ve spoken a couple of weeks ago now. They know we’re interested. They have said they will try and look after me if they can.

“At this present time he’s not coming down but it could be something happens later on.”

O’Kane has been with Leeds since the summer of 2016, featuring regularly under Garry Monk, Thomas Christiansen and Paul Heckingbottom.

Across all competitions, the 28-year-old has made 58 appearances for the Whites, but failed to score a goal.

O’Kane’s last appearance for the Whites came on the final day of the 2017/18 campaign, with the midfielder stepping off the bench in a 2-0 victory over Queens Park Rangers.

The Verdict

There hasn’t been much interest in O’Kane this summer, so Bowyer must feel confident of landing his signature.

O’Kane will hang on for a move across the Championship, but realistically, it doesn’t look like it will come, which is why Bowyer is referring to the end of the transfer window.
