Steve Evans has stated that Everton and Celtic are among the clubs interested in highly-rated Gillingham goalkeeper Joe Walsh.

The keeper has made just three senior appearances for the club, all in the EFL Trophy, but is one of the hottest names in League One when it comes to a potential future.

Football League World exclusively revealed that the duo were keen on the player earlier this week.

Evans has expressed that they may want him even more due to the homegrown rule, but he knows that there is a difference between looking and being prepared to buy.

Speaking to Kent Online, Evans said: “Some of these big clubs will be looking and thinking, because of the homegrown rule as well, they need homegrown players. He is a big asset to us.

“We know the people that are coming, it’s not made up. Celtic have been here, Everton have been here, overseas clubs, a couple of German clubs saying they are looking at our young goalkeeper. But there is a difference between looking and being prepared to come back and buy someone."

The Verdict

Walsh has got a long career ahead of him, and he has to pick the next move wisely as he wants to still be playing football rather than go somewhere to be shipped out on loan in future years.

It is yet to be seen how good he actually is, but there's a huge amount of hope that he could be a quite superb Gills keeper in the future.
