Wycombe Wanderers manager Gareth Ainsworth has spoken out regarding speculation linking him with the vacant role at Queens Park Rangers.

The Championship side are still on the hunt for a new manager, having parted company with Steve McClaren at the start of April after a dismal run of form.

Plenty of names have been linked with the vacant managerial role at Loftus Road, with reports from the Evening Standard claiming that Ainsworth is on the club's shortlist after the job he has done at Wycombe.

Ainsworth is no stranger to those at Loftus Road - the 45-year-old made over 130 appearances for the West London side during a seven-year stay at Loftus Road, and even took the reins of the club on a temporary basis on two separate occasions.

The former R's midfielder has since managed Wycombe for over 360 games, guiding them to 18th spot in the Sky Bet League One table after winning promotion from League Two last term.

And, speaking to the Bucks Free Press regarding a potential move to Loftus Road, he said: "It is fabulous to be linked - everyone knows I have a big affinity for that club.

"It is great for me to be linked - I would like to get Saturday out the way first, and we will see what comes next week."

QPR will look to end the season on a high this weekend, as they prepare to travel to Sheffield Wednesday on Sunday afternoon.

Wycombe, meanwhile, sit three points clear of the relegation zone in League One, and as they look to host Fleetwood Town this weekend.

The Verdict

I think QPR should definitely take the emotion out of this one.

Ainsworth is clearly a popular figure at Loftus Road, and would be the perfect man to get the fans back on side and make Loftus Road a happy place again.

But, he hasn't done enough in his managerial career to date, to prove to me that he is capable of stepping up to the Championship.
