Manchester United have taken an interest in Fulham's Ryan Sessegnon, according to Duncan Castles on Reach PLC’s Transfer Window podcast.

Tottenham had looked like favourites to sign the 19-year-old but United have now made an enquiry and could make Fulham an offer should their asking price be reasonable.

It is believed The Cottagers will demand £27m for Sessegnon, who only has a year remaining on his current deal.

If the Red Devils are willing to meet the asking price they could be in pole position, despite Spurs reportedly making a breakthrough in regard to doing a deal.

Given the interest, Fulham are in a strong negotiating position and because of that it is very unlikely that they will lower their valuation. He would be a key player for them this season and could help them get promoted, so they still want him to stay.

United's interest could derail Spurs' attempts to sign him and could lead Fulham to increase their asking price, which could see the deal turn in favour of the Old Trafford club.

The Verdict

This is a very interesting development and one which could upset a lot of Tottenham fans, particularly if they miss out on him to a rival despite years of interest.

It's also quite a strange move from United's perspective as it is not clear where he will fit into the team, given the club has strong options both at left-back and left-wing, and therefore he may not get much game time if he signed.

He would be better suited to joining Spurs if he has the choice, he could be the long-term replacement for Danny Rose and training under Mauricio Pochettino would likely make him a much better player.
