Manchester United are eyeing a transfer swoop for midfielder Matheus Pereira according to a recent report from The Mirror.

Pereira is currently on loan at Championship club West Brom, and has played a starring role in their impressive start to this year's league campaign.

The Baggies are currently sat top of the league table heading into the international break, and will be hoping they can make a timely return to the Premier League themselves.

Pereira has three goals and nine assists to his name in all competitions for West Brom this season, and he'll be hoping to continue to make a good impression under the guidance of Slaven Bilic.

It remains to be seen as to whether Man United have submitted a formal bid for the midfielder, but they are believed to be keeping tabs on the 23-year-old heading into the January transfer window.

The report from The Mirror also revealed that West Brom have an option in the loan deal to sign Pereira permanently for a fee in the region of £8.25m at the end of the season.

But a lot of that could depend on whether the Baggies are playing their football in the Premier League next season, and the club's supporters will be hoping they are, as Pereira has been hugely impressive in his first season in English football on loan from Portuguese giants Sporting Lisbon.

Pereira and his West Brom team-mates are next in action after the international break when they take on Sheffield Wednesday in what could be a tricky test for Slaven Bilic's side at The Hawthorns.

The Verdict:

I'm not sure he's ready to make the step up to the Premier League just yet.

He's really impressed me in the Championship though, and could prove to be a smart signing by Manchester United, but I just think there are better options out there for the Red Devils as they look to challenge for a top-four finish.

Pereira has a bright future ahead of him though, and I can see West Brom signing him permanently in the summer if they're to win promotion back into the top-flight this term.
