Manchester United and Leicester City have joined the race for Dutch youngster Sam van Huffel, decreasing Aston Villa's chances of landing the 19-year old.

Van Huffel is currently at Den Haag and is highly tipped for a move to England when his contract runs out. The Sun have reported that he's now being chased by Jose Mourinho's side, as well as a host of other clubs. Championship side Villa have had him scouted, as have Scottish side Hibernian.

It is reported the midfielder was watched by a host of scouts during Den Haag's U21 clash with RKC Waalwijk, a game which his side won 3-2. Those who travelled won't be disappointed either, he grabbed an 82nd minute winner which kept his side fourth in their division.

That was his third strike of the season for the U21s and although he's been on the bench for his senior side just once this season, it seems he has a line of potential suitors in England and Scotland.

Former Southampton midfielder Eljero Elia came through the ranks at Den Haag, as did Watford full back Daryl Janmaat and Brighton keeper Tim Krul.

The Verdict

Usually when there's a buzz around a player such as this, it is warranted. Those outside of the game might not understand the furore around a youngster with little first team experience, but football scouts are rarely wrong. Aston Villa might well be in the hunt for him, but when you see Manchester United also linked they must surely be favourites. If Villa are not promoted they might be a better option for first team chances, but with him now making national news it's likely many other sides will have a look over the coming months.
