Manchester United are exploring the possibility of signing a right-back as competition for Aaron Wan-Bissaka and Norwich City's Max Aarons is one of the potential targets ahead of the summer, according to a report from ESPN

The 21-year-old was linked with Barcelona last summer and a string of Premier League clubs, including United, Everton, and Tottenham, during the January window but has remained at Carrow Road.

It seems the Canaries may face a fresh battle to keep hold of the defender in the summer as ESPN has reported that United are looking into signing competition for Wan-Bissaka at right-back and Aarons is one of the names in the frame.

A report from The Sunday Mirror last month (24/01/2021, p72) indicated that the Norfolk club value him at around £20 million.

The 21-year-old has been ever-present in the Norwich side since the start of the 2018/19 campaign and did not look out of place in the Premier League last season.

With his current contract set to run until the summer of 2024, the Championship club will be in a strong negotiating position if there is more interest at the end of the season.

Did each of these 18 ex-Norwich City players ever score a goal at Carrow Road?

The Verdict

It's no surprise that Aarons remains on United's radar, particularly as they appear to be playing with the idea of adding depth at right-back.

On top of all the physical attributes, he's a smart and solid defender, and very comfortable in possession.

At 21, he should only continue to improve as he develops and with an established player like Wan-Bissaka already at Old Trafford, United are able to be patient to allow him to do just that.

Norwich have been happy to cash in on their players in the past, so it would be no surprise if they do so this summer.
