Blackburn Rovers are interested in a loan move for Manchester City youngster Jacob Davenport.

According to the Lancashire Telegraph, Blackburn Rovers are one of a few players that Tony Mowbray are considering bringing to Ewood Park in this summer’s transfer window.

The 19-year-old midfielder spent the latter stages of last season on loan at Burton Albion, making 17 appearances for the club in the in Championship.

After an impressive individual campaign, Burton Albion were relegated to League One after finishing 23rd in the Championship, with just Sunderland below them.

Blackburn Rovers finished second in League One, and will be playing their football in England’s second division next season, perhaps making the move more appealing to Davenport and his parent club, Manchester City.

The youngster, who can play as a holding midfielder or further up the field, came through the youth set up at Manchester City, but hasn’t made a first team appearance.

The Verdict

Jacob Davenport has a terrific individual spell on loan at Burton Albion, despite his time ending there in relegation.

Blackburn will certainly be looking to bolster their squad going into their first season back in the Championship, and the young midfielder could be a strong addition.

Whether Davenport will get as much first team football at Blackburn as he did at Burton will have to be seen, but that could play a factor in whether the loan move takes place.
