Ipswich Town have today accepted an offer for 16-year-old forward Ben Knight, according to the East Anglian Daily Times.

Town have reluctantly accepted a £1 million offer from the Premier League champions, and Knight is expected to complete his move to the Etihad this weekend.

Knight, who is a member of England's Under-16 squad, was expected to start a two-year scholarship with the Tractor Boys this season, but City's bid appears to have scuppered that.

The 16-year-old can play as a striker or as an attacking midfielder and has been compared to Lionel Messi in terms of playing style by Ipswich academy coach Kieron Dyer.

The verdict

This just does not seem like a good move for any of the parties involved. Obviously, £1 million to Manchester City is nothing, but will they give Knight the playing time to benefit from this? I doubt it.

It seems to be that Knight would have benefitted more from staying at Ipswich and gaining some first-team experience out on loan in the future.

I can obviously understand that £1million pound is a massive offer for a club like Ipswich and one that they were never likely to turn down. It's just hard to see Knight doing anything other than playing youth football for the next six or seven years.
