Having picked up an impressive point in Lee Carsley’s first game in charge as caretaker boss, Birmingham City backed up the performance with a stunning home victory over Sheffield Wednesday on Wednesday evening.

The Blues battled hard, before a late goal from substitute Isaac Vassell ensured all three points remained in the West Midlands.

The club had been in turmoil following the shock sacking of Harry Redknapp, with the former Tottenham manager given his marching orders after picking up just 4 points from a possible 24.

However Carsley is working wonders with the squad he inherited, and many will call for the former Blues and Everton midfielder to be offered the role on a permanent basis.

A number of players have stepped up since the appointment of Carsley, with summer signing Harlee Dean amongst them.

The former Brentford man was a rock at the heart of the defence against the Owls, and took to Twitter to celebrate the result and thank fans for their support.
