Making sense of the final day of the League One season

The 2021/22 League One campaign has been phenomenal and it got a fittingly wild final day with so much to play for at both ends of the table.

In the end, Wigan Athletic were crowned champions and Rotherham United secured promotion in second place.

MK Dons were forced to settle with a play-off place and are joined by Sheffield Wednesday, Sunderland, and Wycombe.

At the bottom, Gillingham, Fleetwood Town, and Morecambe were scrapping it out to avoid relegation – and with all three playing tough opponents, any sort of a result could have proved vital.

All three suffered defeat, which meant Neil Harris’ Gills were consigned to the drop alongside Doncaster Rovers, AFC Wimbledon, and Crewe.

If Saturday’s drama was anything to go by, the League One play-offs are going to be a lot of fun but before we shift our focus to that Ned Holmes was joined by FLW colleague Marcus Ally to try and make sense of the final day.
