Luton Town have signed Leeds United midfielder Eunan O'Kane on an 18-month deal, it has been confirmed by the Whites club website, with the move following the 29-year-old's loan with the Hatters last season, which was cut short when he broke his leg in just his third game for the club.

O'Kane arrives having not played competitively since suffering a fractured tibia and fibula against Bristol Rovers in September 2018 but told the website: "I'm hopeful that I'll be able to contribute between now and the end of the season but at the minute we are still finding that out," adding: "We haven't put a time frame on it, but ideally I'll be contributing sooner rather than later.

So is O'Kane's switch to Kenilworth a good move by both clubs?

We discuss.........

Ethan Van Ristell

"O'Kane has recently recovered from a severe leg fracture that was suffered last season, and is looking to build his match fitness back up after over a year on the sidelines.

"As he is down the pecking order at Leeds United, the Irishman would not have got the minutes he needs at Elland Road, and this move seems sensible from that point of view.

"It sees the 29-year-old return to Luton Town for a second time on an 18-month loan arrangement. O'Kane's Leeds contract expires in the summer of 2021, which means he could be available on a free transfer at the end of the loan spell.

"From that perspective, this is a good deal for Luton all round. O'Kane brings valuable experience, he is familiar with the club, and if all is successful, the Hatters will be getting a solid campaigner for nothing next summer."

Ned Holmes

“This makes a lot of sense for all parties involved.

“O’Kane has not featured since the arrival of Marcelo Bielsa, so a long-term move away from Leeds looks the right one.

“It’s a fresh start and should allow the midfielder to kick-start his career.

“Additionally, it’s a club O’Kane knows, having moved there on loan before suffering a nasty injury last season.

“Clearly, Luton are big fans of the player and were impressed by his short previous spell.

“They’re adding a player they’re keen on, so as long as he can fully recover it looks a smart signing.”

Chris Thorpe

"Very easy decision for Leeds to make as in theory O'Kane wouldn't have received anything in the way of game time over the next few months.

"On the flip side Luton are acquiring an experienced head who has enjoyed previous spells at various clubs throughout the EFL.

"The midfielder will be linking up with the club that he played a handful games for back in 2018 and he will certainly feel that he has unfinished business with the Hatters.

"Overall it is a very wise signing by the Championship strugglers as it gives them someone that will add some real bite in midfield."
