Southend United have endured a season to forget so far, with the club having so far only picked up one victory this campaign, thus leaving them in 21st place on four points and without a manager in charge after Kevin Bond resigned from his role earlier this month. 

With caretaker boss Gary Waddock expressing his anger at his player's performance after the Shrimpers lost 2-0 at home to Brighton and Hove Albion's under-21 side, it is clear that the sooner the club's board appoints a permanent manager the better.

Several names have been linked with the vacancy since it became available, with former Celtic and FC Barcelona star Henrik Larsson seemingly the favourite for the job, however reports have come to light today that a new man may be in the frame, with Southend Echo's Chris Phillips reporting that former Southend player Adam Barrett is in line for the job if rumours are to be believed.
