Rio Ferdinand has weighed in on Nottingham Forest's search for a new manager and the links to Chris Wilder, which has caused a stir among many fans of the East Midlands club.

Chris Hughton was sacked earlier this week after the Reds' 2-0 defeat to Middlesbrough left them bottom of the Championship with just one point from seven games.

The search for his replacement is underway with Wilder and Steve Cooper, who both left clubs earlier this year, both linked with taking charge at the City Ground.

Sky Sports has reported that initial talks have been held with both but that Forest are now assessing candidates other than the former Blades boss, with Cooper their priority right now.

A report from the Nottingham Post yesterday indicated that Wilder was keen on becoming Hughton's replacement and it seems he's a candidate that Ferdinand knows well, with the former England defender weighing in on Twitter to confirm that he's interested.

The Manchester United legend's input has certainly caused a stir among fans of the East Midlands club, with many taking to Twitter to voice their thoughts.
