Reading are currently in the market for a new manager after the sacking of Paul Clement on Thursday, and Vitória S.C. boss Luis Castro has emerged as the frontrunner for the job at the Madejski Stadium.

But it is claimed that Reading owner Dai Yongge is set to offer Castro an astonishing amount of money to spend if he is appointed at Reading.

Portuguese media outlet The Record, have reported that if Castro is appointed, then he will be given €100m to spend over the next two transfer windows to help fire the Royals back into promotion contention.

This news will come as a huge surprise, as many Reading fans will be left questioning where this large amount of funds has suddenly come from.

It is also reported that officials from Reading are currently in Portugal trying to secure a deal to bring Castro to Berkshire, with a package of €11m settlement package reportedly being offered by the Championship club.

The Royals are in desperate need of a complete revamp of the current playing squad, with Reading currently occupying one of the relegation places in the Championship.

So if Castro is appointed, he will need to turn their poor run of form around as quickly as possible, and will be hoping to bring in some replacements for some underperforming individuals in the Reading squad.

It's sure to be an interesting week for Reading supporters, many of whom will be hoping Castro will be in the dugout when Reading take on Rotherham next weekend.

The Verdict:

This appointment is make or break for the Royals.

There's no doubting that Castro is an excellent manager, but if this latest report is true, then Reading will need to see success- and fast.

If Castro is given a considerable amount of money when appointed, then Reading will be needing to challenge for the top six quite quickly.

Otherwise, this could all go spiralling out of control, which could jeopardise the club's future.
