West Ham United are still willing to negotiate a lower price to sign Brentford winger Said Benrahma according to the Daily Mail's Sami Mokbel.

It is also claimed that Brentford are keen to have a new deal completed in the near future, although the deal is off as it stands ahead of the 5pm transfer deadline.

This update comes after it was reported by The Mirror that Benrahma failed a medical with West Ham on Friday morning, which has left the deal hanging in the balance.

Benrahama has been a long-term transfer target for the Hammers, with a fee in the region of £25million being quoted over any potential deal.

The Algerian winger caught the eye with a number of impressive performances for Brentford last season, having scored 17 goals and being on hand to provide ten assists in his 46 appearances during the 2019/20 season.

But his efforts weren't quite enough as the Bees missed out on promotion into the Premier League, after a defeat to Fulham in the Championship play-off final at Wembley.

A move to West Ham could have been tempting for Benrahma as well, with David Moyes' side currently sat tenth in the Premier League table after their opening four matches of the season.

Brentford are set to return to action this weekend, when they take on Coventry City, in what could potentially be a tricky test for Thomas Frank's side.

The Verdict:

It'll be interesting to see if a deal can be completed in time.

I certainly didn't expect Benrahma to fail a medical with West Ham this morning, and I'm not surprised to hear that the Hammers are still keen on signing him before the 5pm deadline.

Brentford won't want to risk having an unhappy player on their books if a deal isn't completed tonight, and they'll be eager to get a deal over the line.

We're set for a frantic few hours at West Ham it seems.
