Matheus Pereira looks set to leave West Brom this summer, with the midfielder reportedly not being committed to the Baggies at this moment in time.

Pereira signed for the club back in 2020 from Portuguese side Sporting Lisbon, and has gone on to make 77 appearances in total for them.

He played a starring role in West Brom's promotion-winning campaign in the 2019/20 season, as he chipped in with eight goals and 20 assists.

Pereira has followed that up with a strong season for the Baggies, as he netted 12 goals last term, although his efforts weren't quite enough to see them avoid relegation straight back into the second-tier of English football.

Those impressive performances haven't gone unnoticed though, with West Ham rumoured to be the frontrunners to land his signature this summer.

Speaking in a recent interview (quotes sourced from The Express and Star), West Brom boss Valerien Ismael has confirmed that Pereira isn't committed to the club ahead of the new Championship campaign.

"I have spoken with Matheus for a few weeks. He was clear he wants to leave. He is not committed to the Championship and not committed to us.

"I accept this decision but I have to take my decision and now we need to solve the situation."

West Brom are set to take on AFC Bournemouth in the first match of the 2021/22 Championship season, in what is likely to be a tricky test for Ismael's side, especially when they're likely to be without Pereira.

The Verdict:

It's surely only a matter of time before he departs the club this summer.

Pereira has been brilliant for West Brom in recent seasons, and he's shown that he's more than capable of adjusting to the demands of Premier League football, having been a rare bright spark for the Baggies last term, even though they were relegated back into the Championship.

With the Brazilian not being committed to the club, West Brom should look to try and have his future resolved at the earliest of opportunities, as they won't want to be focusing on moving him on when the new league campaign gets underway.

It'll be interesting to see who the Baggies target as Pereira's potential replacement in the coming weeks.
