Leeds United target Oli McBurnie has sparked a frenzy on social media after replying to a picture of him playing for the Whites' youth side.

Twitter user Ian Denton posted a picture of McBurnie lining up for Leeds' under-9 side back in 2005.

And McBurnie replied to the picture with two laughing emojis, saying "belter that pic".

The 21-year-old has recently been linked with a summer move to Leeds with the Scottish Sun reporting that he will turn down a new deal at Swansea City to sign for his hometown club.

McBurnie was born in Leeds and favours a move back to Elland Road rather than joining Sheffield Wednesday and Derby County, who are also interested in his services.

The Scotland international, who recently made his debut for the senior side, has been a revelation since joining Barnsley on loan in the winter transfer window.

McBurnie has scored a remarkable eight goals in 12 starts for the Tykes, which is a fantastic return considering that they are in the relegation zone right now.

Leeds are likely to be in the market for a new striker this summer with attacking trio Pierre-Michel Lasogga, Caleb Ekuban and Jay-Roy Grot failing to impress for Paul Heckingbottom's side.

The Verdict

This tweet is likely to be just a bit of lighthearted humour from McBurnie but it has certainly fuelled the transfer rumours. The original tweet that he replies to mentions the fact that he could return to Leeds and he does not deny it. McBurnie would be an excellent addition for Leeds rather than them signing another unproven player from the continent.
