Sky Bet League One side Coventry City are exploring the option of moving to 4,000-seater rugby ground Butts Park, with their future at the Ricoh Arena looking uncertain.

The Sky Blues moved to the 32,000-seater stadium from Highfield Road when it was first built in 2005, but look unlikely to play their football there next season due to the city council and London Wasps unwilling to agree a new lease.

The club ground-shared with Northampton Town at Sixfields Stadium in the 2013/14 campaign, but they now face being thrown out of EFL should they not find a home for next season.

And according to the Times, Butts Park, which is home to Coventry R.F.C and Coventry Bears, could be a potential destination for the Midlands club to play their matches.

The stadium, which is situated just four miles away from the Ricoh, holds just 4,000 people - 3,000 of those being seats, with the arena able to accommodate a further 1,000 people on the terraces.

Birmingham City's stadium St. Andrew's was also believed to be under consideration by the club, but the EFL has insisted that the club move a maximum of six miles away from their current ground and no further.

Mark Robins' side currently occupy 8th spot in the League One table, and sit eight points off the play-off places after an enthralling 5-4 win over Sunderland at the weekend.

The Verdict

This is absolutely baffling - what a shambles this would be.

Coventry's average attendance this season is just over 12,000, whereas this stadium wouldn't even be able to accommodate for two thirds of that figure.

It must be a terrible situation for everyone concerned with the club, and it must be so hard for Robins to keep morale high and gain any consistency on the pitch whatsoever.
