According to the Mirror, Birmingham City are expected to announce Harry Redknapp as their permanent manager in the coming week, as they plan for a promotion-push in the Sky Bet Championship next season.

Redknapp was handed a short-term deal at St Andrew’s in April, as the Blues aimed to avoid relegation to League One in the closing stages of the season.

Sunday’s 1-0 victory over Bristol City confirmed Birmingham’s survival, with Blackburn Rovers falling out of the Championship.

The 70-year old won two from his three games in-charge at St Andrew’s, and despite his age, he is keen to return to management on a permanent basis.

Birmingham’s owners are ready to back Redknapp during the summer transfer window, with hope that the former Tottenham and QPR manager can help the club compete for a Premier League return.

Under the stewardship of Gary Rowett in the early stages of the 2016/17 season, the Blues looked like they would challenge for the Play-Offs, but Rowett was surprisingly replaced by Gianfranco Zola in December, which resulted in the club freefalling into a relegation battle.

The club’s owners have accepted responsibility for their mistakes and are now hoping Redknapp’s experience will be key next season.
