There have been many rumoured names linked with the managerial post at Reading recently, after Paul Clement was dismissed on Thursday morning

And, according to Portuguese media outlet, The Record, Reading officials are reportedly in Portugal trying to secure a deal to bring Luis Castro to the Madejski Stadium.

Castro took charge of the Portuguese club Vitória earlier this year and has guided them up to 5th in the Premeira Liga which is an honourable achievement, given the financial limitations that Castro has to work under.

Vitória are yet to confirm the approach for their manager, who has taken the club forward at a rapid rate, but they could be tempted to cash in on Castro, with the club's future likely to be more important.

The report from The Record also suggests that Reading are willing to pay the €1m release clause in his contract to bring him to Berkshire.

The Reading board will be hoping that they can strike a deal as quickly as possible so that they can have a new man in charge for the busy festive period, where the Royals will be eager to turn around their poor run of form.

They are currently sat 20th in the Championship table and are only out of the relegation zone on goal difference so Castro could be the man to turn their season around.

The Verdict:

This would be an interesting one.

Castro is unproven in the Championship, and would certainly be a gamble by Reading, but if it pays off, they could see instant success.

It would be a similar appointment to when Wolves announced Nuno Espírito Santo would take charge of the club, and they have never looked back.

Castro's managerial ability shouldn't be doubted as he has guided Vitória into the title race alongside the likes of Benfica and former club, FC Porto.

It would be worth the risk for Reading.
