Northampton Town Football Club has confirmed via Twitter that their manager Chris Wilder and his number two Alan Knill, will not be leaving the club to join divisional rivals Charlton Athletic following talks between the two parties.
The League Two winning management team had been given permission to discuss the vacancy at The Valley with the club’s hierarchy, although talks have now stalled and the duo will not be making the move south.
The Cobblers romped to the League Two title in emphatic fashion, finishing 13 points clear of Oxford United in second, securing promotion to the third tier with a month of the season left to play.
It is thought that other teams searching for a new manager have been alerted to this news and the slight chance of Wilder moving elsewhere still remains, although the only thing certain at this stage is that his next team will not be the Addicks.
In a short statement Northampton Town Chairman Kelvin Thomas said: “We understand there is further interest in Chris and Alan, although we have received nothing formal at this stage.”
Northampton Town fans, what do you make to this news? Will Chris Wilder be your boss next season?
