Lee Bowyer has resigned as Charlton Athletic manager, according to London News Online.

Bowyer has been in charge of the Addicks since March 2018 when he took over as interim manager following the departure of Karl Robinson.

Things have been far from rosy at The Valley with matters off the pitch seemingly affecting results on it.

As it stands Charlton are currently sitting in ninth position in League One just two points adrift of the play-off spots.

However with the South London side having played more games than the majority of sides above them it leaves plenty of work to do between now and the end of the season.

Cawley has been covering the fortunes of the club closely this term and took to Twitter to suggest that an announcement could be imminent.

Taking to Twitter, Cawley said: "Had it suggested to me that Lee Bowyer has resigned as Charlton Athletic manager. Trying to follow it up now."

The verdict

This would be major news for Charlton Athletic.

Things haven't seemed right at the Valley for some time and the departure of Lee Bowyer would be a huge development as the club continue to battle to secure promotion back to the Championship.

Things have been tough for Bowyer and it seems that perhaps he's now decided that enough is enough.
