Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder was handed a welcome boost yesterday as key midfielder and vice captain Paul Coutts completed 90 minutes for the under-23’s in their 3-1 win over Sheffield Wednesday.
The influential midfielder has been out of first team action since breaking his leg against Burton Albion last term, but is edging closer to full fitness and stepped up his recovery with a fine showing yesterday.
Coutts got himself on the scoresheet too for the Blades, as they saw off bitter rivals Wednesday to give the red half of the city a small element of bragging rights early on in the campaign.
However, it is the return of Coutts which is the big boost for the club and manager Wilder, with the midfielder being sorely missed last season as United stumbled in the second half of the campaign and ultimately fell short of the playoff places in the Championship.
United’s first team have once again made a positive start to the season, although with only a point from their last two games, they will be hoping for a win this afternoon against Preston North End.
The return of Coutts will surely only further boost a midfield which already contains the likes of John Fleck and Oli Norwood, both who have been impressive in their own right this term.
Blades fans, how happy are you to see Coutts back? Can he get straight back in the XI? Let us know your thoughts!
