QPR are confident that defender Angel Rangel will sign a new deal at Loftus Road, despite interest from several Championship clubs.

The 36-year-old joined the R's as cover for Darnell Furlong in August on a deal until January and has gone on to make a huge impact at the club.

Steve McClaren's side have turned things around significantly in the past few months and the Spaniard has been central to that.

So much so, reports emerged recently suggesting that Nottingham Forest and Norwich were keen on the player.

However, West London Sport have revealed that the former Swansea man is prepared to reject the chance to join any of those sides by penning a new deal with the R's.

Given his age, that is likely to be initially until the end of the season.

Rangel has made 16 appearances since he joined the club and enjoyed a memorable afternoon at the end of last month, where his two goals helped the side to a 2-2 draw against Stoke.

The experienced defender will expect to feature as QPR travel to face high-flying Leeds this weekend.

The Verdict

This is great news for QPR as Rangel has had a massive impact at the club since joining in the summer.

Not only is he helping the team on the pitch but his influence on the rest of the team and his experience cannot be underestimated.

It's particularly important that he is staying with the club facing a January transfer ban too.
