QPR have confirmed that defender Angel Rangel has signed a new deal that will keep him at Loftus Road until the end of the season.

The former Swansea full-back joined the R's in the summer on a free transfer, penning a deal until January, and was seen as someone who would provide cover at the back for Steve McClaren.

However, the 36-year-old has established himself as a regular in the team, playing 16 games for the side this season.

In that time, QPR have significantly improved and Rangel's role in that did not go unnoticed, with the likes of Nottingham Forest and Norwich thought to be keen on the player.

But, he has decided to stay with the London club, who announced the longer deal for the player on their website this afternoon.

And, Rangel told the clubs media how it was an easy decision to stay at a place where he has become an instant fans favourite.

"I’m delighted to be able to stay until the end of the season. The club wanted me to stay so I didn’t think twice about it."

The Spaniard is sure to star tomorrow as QPR face a tough challenge against high-flying Leeds at Elland Road.

The Verdict

This is fantastic news for QPR as Rangel has made so much difference to the team since arriving.

He has been superb defensively for the side and brings a real calmness and leadership to the group - whilst he has even popped up with two goals!

Given the supposed interest from elsewhere it's good for the club that they've managed to do a deal until the summer.
