Aston Villa and Leeds United have been dealt a major transfer blow with top target Harry Wilson set to move elsewhere.

According to The Scottish Sun, Wilson is one of two players on the verge of sealing a move to Glasgow Rangers.

Rangers are now managed by former Liverpool legend Steven Gerrard and he is set to use his links with the Merseyside club to complete some key signings.

Gerrard is eyeing a reunion with Martin Skrtel, who will cost £2.7m from Fenerbahce, on a three-year deal for the defender.

And Gerrard is also closing in on signing Wilson on a one-year loan deal.

Rangers look set to beat Huddersfield Town, Leeds United and Aston Villa to the signing of the Wales international, who had an extremely impressive stint on loan at Hull City in the Championship last term.

The 21-year-old scored seven goals and got three assists in just 11 starts for the Tigers after joining in January.

These performances did not go unnoticed and the Liverpool starlet is attracting plenty of interest.

But given the links between the Reds and Rangers, the Scottish Premiership team look set to wrap this deal up.

Having already signed Hull's Allan McGregor, Brighton's Jamie Murphy and Burnley's Scott Arfield, it looks like Skrtel and Wilson will be the next two to arrive at Ibrox as part of a summer rebuild.

The Verdict

This is a major blow for Aston Villa and Leeds, especially for the latter.

While Villa still have the likes of Jack Grealish and Albert Adomah on the wings, Leeds need to add some creative spark and goals to their attacking midfield ranks with the likes of Samu Saiz and Ezgjan Alioski blowing hot and cold throughout the season.

Wilson offers pace, trickery, goals, assists and plenty of promise so Leeds should have gone all out for this deal as he is a proven performer in the Championship.
