Major Barnsley managerial search update emerges regarding Burton Albion boss

Published

on

Following their drop down to League One, Barnsley are currently tasked with finding a new manager to try and lead the club to an immediate Championship return.

The Tykes, who finished bottom of the second tier pile last season, saw both their managers struggle during the course of the campaign, with Barnsley parting company with Markus Schopp and then Poya Asbaghi.

Now searching for a new manager for the upcoming campaign, Jimmy Floyd-Hasselbaink, who had been closely linked with the vacancy at Oakwell, is likely to be out of the running, as per a Patreon from journalist Alan Nixon.

The report states that bizarrely, the current Burton Albion boss was due to hold a Zoom call with the Barnsley hierarchy, however, the Tykes officials did not turn up.

Quiz: Are these 18 Barnsley transfer facts true or false?

It goes on to state that Hasselbaink is likely to end his interest in Barnsley’s managerial vacancy.

The verdict

In what is a very strange situation, the Tykes’ managerial position remains open, with this being a boost to Michael Duff’s chances of securing this role at Oakwell.

Hasselbaink, who has done a good job at Burton over the last couple of years, could have been a strong appointment for the Tykes given his progression.

Should he now remain Burton’s boss, then that is likely to add a little bit of spice to the fixtures against Barnsley next season, for Hasselbaink at least.

A truly bizarre situation has played out here, and whilst mix-ups like these can be common, especially through the online world, it has not painted a good picture for the Barnsley hierarchy.
