German Bundesliga side Mainz have signed Chile full-back Gonzalo Jara following his release from Championship side Nottingham Forest, according to Sky Sports.
The 28-year old full-back impressed many potential suitors at the World Cup in Brazil with his nation who were unfortunately knocked out by the home nation, Brazil on penalties.
His performances impressed many pundits and it was speculated that he would leave England following the World Cup.
Nottingham Forest announced before the World Cup that they would release him before the World Cup began, thus allowing him to move on a free transfer.
He has signed a two-year contract with the German side and is set to take part in Mainz’s Europa League 3rd qualifying round tie which is set to be decided on Friday.
Mainz general manager Christian Heidel told reporters, “Gonzalo Jara played himself into the limelight with some strong performances at the World Cup.
“He’s a very experienced, versatile player who will give our defence additional stability. We’re delighted that he’s chosen Mainz for his future.”
