Maierhofer had an injury-plagued spell at Wolverhampton Wanderers and made only nine appearances in a two-year spell after joining from Rapid Vienna in 2009.

Elsewhere there is indication that Steve Morison, who spent the 2013/14 season on loan at Millwall from fellow Championship side Leeds United, will not be making a third return to the New Den.

Morison originally joined the club from Stevenage in 2009 and was a key player as the Lions won promotion from League One via the play-offs in 2010. He left the New Den to join Norwich City in a £2.8 million move in 2011 but failed to hit it off at Carrow Road and left to join Leeds in January 2013 as part of the deal that saw Luciano Becchio move to Norwich.
