The midfielder has signed a two-year deal with the Magpies following his departure from North End in May.

Wroe played 43 league games in two seasons at Deepdale but was sent out on loan to former club Shrewsbury Town and Oxford United during the 2013-14 campaign.

At 28, Wroe started his career at Barnsley in 2003 and has represented seven Football League sides including Bury, York City and Torquay.

He also played one game north of the border in 2007 in a month spell with Hamilton Academical.

His most fruitful spell was with Devon club Torquay United between 2008 and 2011, where he made over 100 appearances in three years at Plainmoor.

In his first year with the Gulls, he helped Paul Buckle’s side return to the Football League via the Conference play-offs.

Wroe becomes Shaun Derry’s fifth summer signing having already captured former England international Alan Smith, Taylor McKenzie, Liam Noble and Hayden Mullins.
