A number of Sunderland supporters have been raging over the latest report from Chronicle Live suggesting that the Black Cats might not play Aiden McGeady against Lincoln City on Saturday due to a contractual clause.

The Black Cats are facing a huge task to try and overturn the 2-0 deficit they suffered in the first leg of their play-off semi-final against Lincoln City. Lee Johnson’s side know they will have to produce a massive performance to get themselves back into the tie. They will need all of their best players on the pitch to make it through to the final.

However, according to Chronicle Live, McGeady might not feature for the Black Cats in the second leg at the Stadium of Light because it is believed that if he features he will trigger a 12-month extension to his deal. Sunderland are thought not to be wanting to commit to another year of paying his wages which are the highest at the football club.

Chronicle Live’s report though does offer some hope for Sunderland, with there being the potential that McGeady could indeed decide to waive the clause. That could happen if the Black Cats agree to honour it should they achieve promotion.

Many Sunderland fans were frustrated with the latest report and were bemoaning how the situation was allowed to be created in the first place.
