Ben Brereton has been called up to the Chile national team for their upcoming World Cup qualifiers.

Brereton joined Blackburn from Nottingham Forest in a £7million deal back in 2018/19, and has since made 88 appearances for Rovers.

The 22-year-old has been a key player under Tony Mowbray this season, scoring seven goals and adding five assists in 40 Championship appearances.

The attacker will now look forward to the summer, with a potential World Cup campaign on the horizon.

Can you name the Blackburn Rovers player who has been carded the most in each of the last 16 seasons?

Who was Blackburn Rovers' most carded player in the 2005/06 season?

Not with England, though. Rovers have this afternoon announced that Brereton has been called up to the Chile national team for the very first time.

Brereton is eligible to play for Chile because of his mother’s birthplace, and has pledged international allegiance to them having previously played for England’s Under-19s’ and England’s Under-20s’.

He will now be part of the squad to face Argentina on June 3rd, before La Roja host Bolivia on June 8th as part of their World Cup qualifying campaign.

It’s undoubtedly a big moment for Brereton, who will be looking to make his international debut at the age of 22.

He would have initially wanted that to be with England, but this opportunity has clearly been too good for the attacker to turn down.

Here, we take a look at Blackburn fans’ reactions to his call-up…
