Macclesfield Town manager Daryl McMahon has reportedly handed in his resignation at the club, according to Sky Sports.

The Silkmen’s problems are continuing to grow in League Two as McMahon hands in his resignation, having only joined the club this season to replace Sol Campbell who departed the club with mutual consent.

Their problems on the pitch have been overshadowed by the crippling financial crisis that surrounds them off the pitch, with the players and staff not being paid on time on more than one occasion. This led to a strike when they faced Kingstonian in the FA Cup First Round, seeing their behind-the-scenes issues rise to the surface.

Along with this, the club recently received a six-point deduction following their failure to fulfil their fixture against Crewe Alexandra, plummetting them into a relegation dogfight.

Sky Sports are now reporting that McMahon has handed in his resignation at the club to leave with immediate effect, after just 25 games in charge of the Silkmen.

The reason behind this departure is thought to be that he is frustrated at a lack of resources available to him heading into the January transfer window, which comes as little surprise given their current financial standing.

The Verdict

This is a huge loss to Macclesfield whose problems don’t appear to be letting up and McMahon was doing a solid job to steer the side away from the drop before the points deduction.

The club now find themselves in the tough position of finding a replacement with a very limited budget and a serious wage problem.
