It's been a busy summer for Ipswich Town, who recruited 15 new faces as they look to return to the Championship following three seasons in the third tier.

But it's been a poor start to the League One season for Ipswich as the promotion favourites have failed to win any of their opening three competitive games of the 21/22 season.

One of those new recruits, Macauley Bonne, is determined to stake his claim for a place in the starting XI of Paul Cook's side. The 25-year-old forward joined on a season-long loan and scored on his debut against Morecambe on the opening day, but that didn't convince Cook enough to start him in the defeat to Burton Albion.

That hasn't deterred Bonne, playing for his boyhood club, who told East Anglian Daily Times: "We’re a new team and he’s (Cook) got to find out, not necessarily what his strongest XI is because we’ve got a great squad, but find out what the best partnerships are, what are the best ‘clicks’ in the team.

"Now it’s going to start to be a proper fight for positions [referring to the squad depth], so every time I get on the pitch I’m going to stake my claim, take my chances and make sure I’m giving the gaffer a headache to make sure I’m undroppable.”

The Ipswich-born forward is happy to play anywhere for his new side, saying: “If he goes and tells me to play left wing, right wing or anywhere, as long as I’m playing in a Town shirt I do not care where I’m playing,”

The Verdict

Ipswich will be favourites for the title this season, and rightly so. In Paul Cook, they have a manager who's a serial winner at League One level and they have recruited a small squad to add to their own squad already.

Macauley Bonne offers exactly the type of personality needed for a side to win promotion. With competition for places at a high, having a player at your disposal who is willing to put the work rate in, play anywhere he's asked to is a huge bonus.

Having players like Bonne will certainly make things easier in the long run, but until that first win is secured, the pressure will be on everyone at Portman Road.
