Sheffield United will be looking to get back to winning ways in the Championship this weekend when they face AFC Bournemouth on Saturday.

Having witnessed his side suffer a disappointing 2-0 defeat at the hands of Middlesbrough on Tuesday, Blades manager Slavisa Jokanovic may decide to make some alterations to his side.

One of the individuals who will be looking to make a positive impression for United in the coming months is forward Lys Mousset who has recently been forced to watch on from the sidelines due to injury.

The Frenchman's current deal at Bramall Lane is set to expire next year and thus potential suitors could enter contract negotiations with him during the January transfer window.

Here, we take a look at Mousset's situation at the club and ask whether a January exit is likely to happen...

What do we know so far?

Mousset was given the opportunity to prove himself by Jokanovic earlier this season after being limited to just 11 appearances in the Premier League during the previous campaign.

Since featuring in the club's 1-0 defeat to Birmingham City last month, the 25-year-old has been sidelined with a hamstring injury.

In Mousset's absence, Billy Sharp has managed to produce some eye-catching performances in the Championship as he has provided six direct goal contributions in 10 appearances.

Having recently returned to training, the forward could potentially be included in the club's match-day squad for their showdown with Bournemouth.

Is a January exit likely to happen?

When you consider that Mousset has only managed to score six goals in 47 appearances for the club, it wouldn't be at all surprising if the Blades opt to part ways with him in January.

United currently have a host of attacking options to choose from at Bramall Lane as Oli McBurnie, Sharp, Rhian Brewster, David McGoldrick and Oliver Burke are all competing for position with Mousset.

Keeping this in mind, it could be argued that a January exit may end up benefitting both parties.

Whilst Mousset could kick-start his career at another club, the Blades could use the money generated from his departure to re-invest in their squad.
