Sunderland winger Lynden Gooch has posted a hilarious throwback from his first game for the Black Cats 14 years ago.

The American joined the North East club as a 10-year-old, making the switch from the Santa Cruz Breakers Academy.

Gooch has since progressed through Sunderland's youth system and become a key man in the first team.

He took to Twitter earlier today to post a hilarious throwback from his first game in a Sunderland shirt.

The 24-year-old made his first-team debut for the Black Cats in August 2015, coming off the bench in a 6-3 victory against Exeter City in the EFL Cup.

Gooch has gone on to make 122 appearances in total for Sunderland, representing them in the Premier League, Championship and League One.

The winger has been a key man for Phil Parkinson this term and is having the most productive seasons of his career in front of goal – finding the next 10 times in 30 League One games so far.

Despite moving over to the UK at the age of 10, Gooch has stayed true to his American roots and made his international debut for the United States back in 2017 – going on to make four appearances since.

The Verdict

Black Cats fans will surely love this hilarious throwback from Gooch, particularly the very questionable haircut he is sporting.

The 24-year-old has been phenomenal this season and a key attacking weapon for Parkinson's side. You feel he will have a part to play if they're to secure promotion when the season returns.

His arrival from the US at the age of just 10 now looks a really smart move from the North East club.
