Charlton Athletic manager Lee Bowyer is hoping to have top scorer Lyle Taylor back in training tomorrow.

The 29-year-old had been on international duty with Montserrat and played in their CONCACAF Nations League win over the Dominican Republic at the weekend.

The striker returned to Charlton earlier than expected, missing the 1-1 draw with Saint Lucia on Tuesday.

However, Charlton boss Bowyer has insisted that it was just a precaution and is hoping that the striker will be able to return to training tomorrow.

“It’s just a precaution. We are going to try and get him out training tomorrow and see how he responds to that,” Bowyer told South London Press.

Taylor joined Charlton from AFC Wimbledon on a two-year deal last summer and scored 25 goals in 45 appearances for the Addicks in all competitions last season, helping the team win promotion from League One.

Despite never playing at this level before, Taylor has made a fine start to the new season and is currently the joint-top scorer in the Championship, with five goals in six games.

Charlton are unbeaten in the Championship this season and are currently second in the league table, after winning four of their opening six matches.

The Addicks will be hoping to continue their momentum at the weekend with another three points against ninth-placed Birmingham City at The Valley.

The Verdict

This is good news for Charlton. Taylor has started the season in fantastic goalscoring form and it would be a major blow for the team if he was to suddenly suffer an injury.

Charlton have made a brilliant start to the new season, but they've got some tough fixtures coming up, so it's important that they're able to keep their best players fit.

This update from Bowyer suggests that Taylor's injury is nothing major and the fact that he's expected to return to training tomorrow suggests that he can't be that far away from returning to action - he could even be fit for the weekend.
