Charlton Athletic lost 3-1 at Stoke City in the Championship yesterday.

James McClean handed Stoke the lead just before the hour-mark mark, which they held onto until the end of the first-half when Lyle Taylor levelled things with a lunging finish inside the penalty box.

But the home side came out the blocks firing and regained the lead within two minutes of the restart, with Tom Ince putting Stoke back in-front.

Nick Powell then doubled their lead, and condemned Charlton to their fourth-straight away defeat - the win for Stoke has seen them leapfrog Charlton into 20th-place.

After a frustrating afternoon for Charlton, Taylor posted this on his Instagram:

Lee Bowyer's side sit precariously above the relegation zone, only a place and four points ahead of Wigan in 22nd.

A win at home to Barnsley the weekend before seemed to have put some wind back in Charlton's sails, and they headed to the bet365 Stadium in good hope of taking some points off their relegation rivals.

But Stoke continued their resurgent form, and claimed their fourth win in six league games as they look be climbing towards safety.

Charlton however are in real danger of slipping into the bottom-three, and next head to promotion contenders Nottingham Forest in midweek.

The verdict

Bowyer has a real task on his hands now. They've been gradually getting closer to the bottom-three all season and now they're next in-line to drop into it.

They've a tough game in midweek at the City Ground and Bowyer will need his players to show a bit more fight in this one, and hope that Taylor can once again deliver the goods.
