After the Sky Bet League One Team of the Season was released last month, Lee Bowyer wasn’t a happy man.

The prestigious line-up consisted of players from the likes of Luton Town, Barnsley, Sunderland and Doncaster Rovers, but failed to include any players from Charlton Athletic, despite their impressive position in the league table.

Bowyer labelled the award as a ‘waste of time’ following his players’ omissions, with the likes of Joe Aribo, Jason Pearce and Lyle Taylor all being overlooked by the EFL.

The latter took his tally up to 23 goals for the campaign, following his strike in a 4-0 win against Scunthorpe United on Monday - and the forward has now issued a response to the EFL, who praised the prolific forward after yet another impressive afternoon.

It was important for the Addicks to bounce back on Monday, after a disappointing 2-1 away loss to Oxford United on Good Friday.

Their place in the play-offs is already confirmed for another season, and Bowyer's men will be looking to build momentum, with just two league games left to play this term.

The Verdict

I think Lyle Taylor has been exceptional for Charlton this season - his goals have really helped them out, and he has really stepped up to the plate since Karlan Grant left.

With the standard of striking options in the league, the likes of James Collins were hard to leave out of the team of the season.

He will be so important for Bowyer's men in the play-offs, as they look to make a long-awaited return to the Championship.
