Yesterday was quite a day at The Valley.

It began with executive chairman Matt Southall addressing certain 'rumours' about himself before they circulated - majority shareholder Tahnoon Nimer had accused Southall of wrongfully funding himself a 'lavish lifestyle' at the expense of the football club.

Then, yesterday morning, Southall released a statement confirming that Nimer had handed in his resignation, and that he'd be cutting any further investments into the club.

But Nimer then reacted, and stated that he was not resigning from his position on the board. A hectic 36 hours for Charlton Athletic, who only last weekend dropped into the relegation zone of the Championship after their defeat to Middlesbrough.

Forward Lyle Taylor is not one to shy away from Instagram, and he posted this after yesterday's events:

It's expected that there'll be more information and accusations to come out of the club today, but so far, this whole scenario only reflects badly on everyone involved.

Taylor, meanwhile, probably shares the same feeling as Lee Bowyer and the rest of the playing staff - they're solely worried about the club's Championship status, and this sort of unrest is the last thing that they need.

The verdict

This was supposed to be the start of a new era for Charlton. They'd waited long enough to see the end of Roland Duchatelet and now they seem to have a host of people who are just as untrustworthy.

Charlton next travel to fellow strugglers Hull City at the weekend, in what's become a huge game in the fight for Championship survival.
