News broke this weekend that Leeds United's midfield Samu Saiz had been the subject of bids from two La Liga sides.

Spanish journalist Edgar Navarro tweeted that Valencia had submitted a £9m bid, with Saiz's former employers Getafe also keen, offering £6.2m for his services.

Both bids have reportedly been rebuked by Marcelo Bielsa, suggesting he sees the mercurial midfielder as part of his plans for a promotion challenge this year.

There's little doubt Saiz is talented, on his day. A debut hat trick against Port Vale was followed  by a further six goals before the beginning of December, sparking Leeds' excellent run and apparent play-off push.

As the Whites' challenge died, so did Saiz's contribution, not least after his long ban for spitting at a Newport County player in the FA Cup. His return failed to bring another goal and his season petered out, much the same as Leeds promotion challenge.

Fans were largely behind selling the player on Twitter, although some pointed to his potential as a reason to hang on to him. Here is a selection of responses from some fans on Twitter.
