Luton Town's top priority this summer surely has to be finding a replacement for James Collins, who has left to join Cardiff City on a free transfer.

The Irish striker has proven a phenomenal signing, having joined from Crawley Town in 2017 and played a key part in the Hatters' meteoric rise.

Collins fired Luton to League Two and League One promotion in consecutive years before top-scoring in both their seasons in the Championship.

The 30-year-old departs Kenilworth Road with 72 goals and 21 assists in 183 appearances, while he's also won eight caps for the Republic of Ireland during his time at the club.

His exit has left the Hatters in pursuit of a new number nine but today we're looking back at goalscorers from the club's history.

In fact, we've compiled a list of Luton's top 10 oldest ever goalscorers!

Let us know on social media or in the comments section whether you remember any of the goals...

At number 10 is former Luton defender Russell Perrett, who was 33 years, 5 months, and 7 days old when he bagged his final goal for the club.

That came in a 2-1 defeat to Southampton in a Championship tie at St Mary's in 2006.

Goals from Chris Baird and Grzegorz Rasiak had given their hosts the lead but Perrett nodded in Lewis Emanuel's free-kick to halve the deficit.

Unfortunately for the Hatters, they were unable to find another goal and all three points stayed on the South Coast.

Perrett's goal was enough to earn him 10th place on this list, however.

Alan McCormack wasn't exactly known for his goalscoring exploits during his stay at Kenilworth Road.

In fact, the Irish defensive midfielder only scored one goal during his two seasons with the Hatters.

McCormack was 33 years, 6 months, and 26 days old when he scored in Luton's 8-2 victory against Yeovil Town on the opening day of the 2017/18 League Two season – meaning he features at number 10 on our list.

His goal is some way to get our list going as well because he thundered in a stunning 25-yard volley that left Kenilworth Road absolutely bouncing. Not all of the goals on this list were quite that magical.

Luke Guttridge's contributions to helping Luton return to the EFL will likely live long in the memory at Kenilworth Road.

The attacking midfield scored 13 goals and added nine assists during the 2013/14 Conference campaign but it's his final strike for the Hatters that we're interested in.

On November 1st 2015, Guttridge scored the opener in Luton's 2-0 League Two victory over Dagenham & Redbridge at Victoria Road.

That would be the last of his 19 goals for the club and as he was 33 years, 7 months, and 5 days old that the time it puts him at number nine on our list.

Alan White's Luton career only lasted a little more than a year and saw him make just four appearances in total – all of which came in the FA Cup.

The central defender helped the Hatters make it to the third round of the competition and was particularly important in their 3-0 win against Rotherham United.

A 2-2 draw with the Millers at the Don Valley Stadium meant their second round tie went to a replay, Luton beat them in comprehensive style at Kenilworth Road in December 2009.

White was 33 years, 8 months, and 16 days old when he scored Luton's second goal in their 3-0 win over Rotherham.

We're rolling the years all the way back to 1983 for the next goal on our list.

Many of the fans reading this may not have even been born when Brian Horton scored the Hatters' only goal in a 3-1 First Division defeat to Sunderland at Kenilworth Road.

The defensive midfielder was 34 years, 1 month, and 22 days old when he converted a penalty to equalise for Luton but goals from Nick Pickering and Leighton James meant the Black Cats took all three points.

Horton will be better remembered for captaining the club to the Second Division title in 1981/82 but his goal against Sunderland puts him on this list.

Kevin Gallen made his name in two impressive goalscoring spells at QPR but his two years at Luton were certainly fruitful.

He bagged 19 goals in 79 appearances for the Hatters, the last of which coming in a 2-0 FA Cup win over Rochdale at Crown Oil Arena in November 2009.

Gallen was 34 years, 1 month, and 22 days old when he bagged a brace in that game to help Luton win the first round replay and secure their place in the second round of the FA Cup.

Those goals would prove the striker's last for the Hatters and his last in the FA Cup ever.

Given his service to the club, it seems only fitting that Brian Stein features on this list.

The South African-born former England international made nearly 400 appearances for Luton and scored 130 goals for the Kenilworth Road outfit.

Those appearances and goals came across two spells at the club and it was in his second that he scored his final goal for the Hatters at the age of 34 years, 4 months, and 24 days old.

Stein bagged the opener in Luton's 1-1 draw with Everton at Goodison Park on the final day of the 1991/92 First Division campaign.

Chris Perry's Luton career lasted less than a year as the experienced defender left to join Southampton on a free transfer in March 2008, having arrived at Kenilworth Road for nothing from West Brom in July 2007.

Perry made 39 appearances for Luton in the 2007/08 season, with his sole goal for the Hatters putting him on this list.

He was 34 years, 6 months, and 1 day old when he scored the opener in a 2-1 League One win against Nottingham Forest at Kenilworth Road.

Given he only scored 12 goals in his 530 senior appearances, Perry's opener was something of a collector's item.

Luton supporters will remember Paul Benson's quality in the final third fondly, given he contributed 17 goals and 13 assists to help the club return to the EFL via the Conference in 2013/14.

Benson struggled to make a similar impact once the Hatters were back in League Two – scoring just seven times in his final two seasons for the club.

His final goal for Luton came in a 3-2 win against Exeter City at St James Park and it was certainly dramatic as the forward scored a winner in the 10th minute of second-half stoppage time.

Benson was 36 years and 17 days old at the time, making him the second-oldest goalscorer in the club's history.

At the top of our list is Paul Furlong, whose final goal for the Hatters came at the age of 39 years, 4 months, and 26 days.

The centre-forward only spent one season at Luton – scoring eight goals in his 32 appearances for the club.

His last was the opener in a 1-1 draw against Millwall at Kenilworth Road on the 26th of February 2008.

Furlong nodded in a Dean Morgan cross after 19 minutes but a Lewis Grabban goal 20 minutes later meant the points were shared.

Leaving Luton wasn't the end of the striker's goalscoring days either as he would go on to feature for Southend United, Barnet, Kettering Town and St Albans City.
