Luton Town's Izzy Brown has commended his teammate Pelly Ruddock, after the midfielder scored the equalising goal in Luton's 2-1 win over Charlton Athletic in the Championship on Tuesday night.

Charlton took the lead through Jonathan Leko early on but it was Ruddock's strike from the corner of the box which levelled things, driving into the box and firing low past Dillon Phillips.

Brown then scored what would be the winner soon after the restart, and his first for the club.

Speaking to Dunstable Today earlier was Brown, and he said he's been impressed with Ruddock's form of late:

“It was lucky finish! Pell’s been unbelievable the last few games, we do a lot of shooting week in week out, me and him are always getting on to each other.

“I think I hit two shots in the game, one went to the corner flag and another nowhere near, so I knew if I didn’t score, he would be on to me.

“It was great that he scored, he just swung his left foot and it went in, nothing special! No it was great from him.”

The win ended a run of five-straight losses for Graeme Jones' Luton and keeps them out of the relegation zone, with a point separating them from Wigan Athletic in 22nd.

For Ruddock, it was his second goal of the season. The 26-year-old has been instrumental to Luton this season and will be pivotal in their push for a Championship spot next season.

He's been with the club since 2013, and has won promotion from the Conference, League Two and League One with the club.

The verdict

Ruddock is a bit of class in that Luton midfield. Jones doesn't have the best players at his disposal but in Ruddock he has a player who adapts to new leagues, and ups his game each time.

He's been key to his team this season and his goal on Tuesday night showed that side of his game - Jones will be begging that he can stay fit for the rest of the campaign as Luton look set to battle relegation.
