The goalkeeping department appears to be a priority for Luton Town this summer, with the Hatters having to use six different shot-stoppers during the 2021/22 campaign, which included two emergency loans.

With James Shea out injured for the unforeseeable future with a knee injury, it would appear that Isted is the club's only senior option, and that is with the 25-year-old only playing a handful of first-team matches for the Hatters.

The Bedfordshire club have now been linked with Hibernian's Matt Macey, as per a Patreon report from Alan Nixon, with the 27-year-old keeping nine clean sheets in 27 league appearances last time out.

Spending the second half of the 2016/17 campaign with the Hatters on loan from Arsenal, Macey conceded 14 goals in 13 games for Luton.

With the goalkeeping department a seeming priority, a return for Matt Ingram is also being considered.

The verdict

It is an interesting link given that he has spent time at Luton under Nathan Jones' stewardship before, however, it is difficult to assess if he would be able to cut it at a club who will once again be highly ambitious in the Championship.

It would be no surprise if Jones and Co. have several goalkeeping targets that they will be keeping a close eye on during this summer, with the aforementioned link with an Ingram return also surfacing in recent weeks.

There is also the loan market for the Hatters' goalkeeping search, however, Jones has often been reluctant to take players on a temporary basis.

This situation could play out differently though, especially when considering that Shea is recovering from injury and will be back to fight for regular minutes.
