Luton Town midfielder Alan McCormack has signed a new one year contract at the club that will keep him at Kenilworth Road until 2019.

The Hatters announced on the Luton Town website, that the 34-year-old has become the first of Nathan Jones’ squad to pen a new deal following their promotion to League One.

McCormack arrived at Kenilworth Road on a free transfer from Championship side Brentford last summer, and helped guide the Hatters to a second placed finish in League Two last season.

McCormack is delighted with the deal, stating: “The season we had last year was phenomenal. I missed a part of it, so to get back in towards the end with the success we had, it just makes you want to stay.

“I’ve said it from the start, the club’s going places. It’s got a great fanbase and superb facilities. It ticks every box for any player wanting to come and play good football, so I was delighted to get things sorted.”

The Verdict

Having played 16 games during this League Two campaign for Luton Town, the Hatters fans will be delighted that the veteran midfielder has put pen to paper with this new contract.

While the Irishman has only one goal to his name this season, it is his work rate and versatility that makes him so appealing.

Having played in midfield and across the back line this season for Nathan Jones’ side, McCormack is a useful player to have at the club.

Whether he will play a pivotal role in the Hatters League One campaign next season will have to wait and see, but his experience and fight will certainly only help the side.
