Wigan Athletic have had a £500,000 bid rejected by Luton Town for defender Dan Potts.

According to The Sun, Paul Cook’s side submitted a half a million pound bid for the former West Ham United full-back, but will need to pay more if they are to secure the signature of the Hatters player.

The 24-year-old  played 45 times in all competitions for Nathan Jones’ side last season, which saw them gain promotion to League One, despite finishing runners up to Accrington Stanley.

Wigan Athletic are looking to bolster their defence after their promotion to the Championship as champions of League One last season.

Potts has one year left on his current contract at Kenilworth Road, and after being named in the PFA Team of the Year for League Two last season, the Hatters will certainly not want to lose him.

The Verdict

Dan Potts was one of the many shining stars in Nathan Jones’ Luton Town side last season, helping them gain promotion to League One.

Losing him would be a killer blow for the Hatters, but could be a fantastic addition to the Wigan Athletic side.

With Championship football to offer next season, an increased bid may just be enough to draw the defender away from Luton and get Potts playing at the DW Stadium next season.
