Luton Town are reportedly set to sign Hartlepool United right-back Peter Kioso after agreeing a deal with the non-league side, according to TeamTalk.

The 20-year-old has been plying his trade with Hartlepool since moving from Dunstable Town in 2018, going on to play 69 times, scoring four goals and assisting two more - three of which have come in the current campaign.

TeamTalk also report that the Hatters have beaten off competition from a host of other Football League clubs for Kioso's signature and a six-figure fee has been agreed.

His medical is set to be completed in the coming hours and looks set to become the club's first signing of the January window.

QUIZ: Can you name the last 12 Luton players to wear the No.10 shirt?

It is a period where Luton fans will be desperate to see their side strengthen as they look to stave off an immediate return to League One.

Graeme Jones' side currently prop up the second-tier with 28 matches played, sat seven points from safety, leaving them with a lot of work to do in the second half of the season.

The verdict

This is a signing that comes with a risk, given Kioso's lack of Football League experience, but it is a signing that should improve the side.

Since Jack Stacey and James Justin were sold in the summer, the Hatters have lacked that attacking dynamism from the full-back positions and this is a move that will definitely address that.

In fact, for large parts of the campaign, Luton have been using midfielder Luke Bolton on the right-hand side of defence with James Bree the only alternative options.

Kioso will add some real attacking threat and that is something that the fans should be very happy about.
